About this plan

3 days Dubai + 2 days Abu Dhabi with the full transport guide.

Why this plan works

The classic two-city split (3 Dubai + 2 Abu Dhabi) mirrors what each city does best: Dubai days run dense with icons, old town, Marina and desert; Abu Dhabi days slow into mosque mornings, Louvre afternoons and Corniche evenings. The transfer day doubles as sightseeing — morning bus or transfer, afternoon Louvre, sunset Corniche — so zero days are lost to logistics.

Order matters little, but Dubai-first wins for most: land at DXB, icons while energy peaks, desert mid-trip, then decompress into Abu Dhabi calmer rhythm before flying home (open-jaw tickets out of AUH save the backtrack). Reverse it only for Abu Dhabi-airport arrivals.

Trip highlights

  • Days 1–3: Dubai icons, old town, Marina-beach plus evening desert safari.
  • Transfer morning: bus (AED 25) or pre-booked transfer (~90 min).
  • Day 4: Grand Mosque morning, Louvre afternoon, Corniche sunset.
  • Day 5: Yas Island park or Saadiyat beach plus Mangrove walk.
  • Two splurge dinners: one Downtown Dubai, one Yas Bay or Corniche.
  • Open-jaw flights (into DXB, out of AUH) saving the return leg.

Budget and logistics

Budget AED 3,000–5,000 per person excluding hotels: Dubai core (~AED 1,500–2,500), Abu Dhabi days (~AED 1,000–1,500 with one park), intercity buses (~AED 50) or transfers (~AED 500 return private). Hotels split 3+2 (Deira/Marina then Corniche/Yas) with one mid-trip move costing an hour. Food upgrades with trip length — plan three proper dinners among cafeteria lunches.

Book safari, Burj slot and headline park before arrival; confirm mosque Friday hours; pack both dress codes daily (modest layers plus swimwear). Keep the transfer morning light — no fixed attraction before noon in the arrival city.

Transfer day tactics

The 90-minute corridor offers three products: E100/E101 bus (AED 25, every 20–30 min, stations at both ends), pre-booked shared transfer (door-to-door, fixed price, ~AED 100–150 per seat), and rental car one-way (freedom plus drop fees). Buses win on price, transfers on schedule, cars only if the Abu Dhabi days need wheels (they rarely do — taxis bridge the 20-minute gaps).

Luggage strategy: check out Dubai morning, store bags or ride with them, check into Abu Dhabi afternoon. Same-day hotel-to-hotel moves cost one surf-checkout hour, not a day — the transfer morning still fits the Louvre afternoon comfortably.

Two-city food strategy

Five days spans two food scenes worth distinguishing: Dubai for global range (cafeteria lunches, mall food halls, one flagship dinner), Abu Dhabi for Emirati-rooted dining (Al Fanar-style restaurants, Corniche seafood, dates-and-coffee rituals). Budget three proper dinners across the week — one per city plus the farewell — with cafeteria lunches funding them silently.

Luggage-day dining deserves planning: breakfast at the Dubai hotel before checkout, lunch near the Abu Dhabi arrival point (Louvre café works), dinner celebration-scale. Never schedule a food tour on transfer day — digestion plus highways punish ambition.

❓ Common questions

3+2 or 2+3 split?

3 Dubai + 2 Abu Dhabi for first-timers (icons first); invert only for Abu Dhabi arrivals or park-heavy trips.

Bus or transfer between cities?

Bus for budget and daylight views; pre-booked transfer for dawn starts, late nights and luggage-heavy groups.

Open-jaw flights worth it?

Usually yes at similar prices — saves a full backtrack day. Compare before defaulting to returns.

Can I day-trip instead of splitting hotels?

Yes but once only; two dawn buses in five days exhausts. One hotel move beats two commutes.

Which city for shopping?

Dubai for range and sales; Abu Dhabi for calm malls. Souk authenticity splits evenly (Deira vs old Souq).
