Al Noor Island
A jewel-box island of butterflies, art and light in Khalid Lagoon
Ottoman elegance on the lagoon — Sharjah's most beautiful mosque, open to visitors
Modelled on Istanbul's Ottoman imperial mosques — cascading domes, twin pencil minarets — Al Noor is the most graceful of Sharjah's 600+ mosques, and the one that opens its doors: the Sharjah Centre for Cultural Communication hosts free visitor mornings with a tour and cultural Q&A.
Its lagoon-front position makes it a photographer's fixture: reflected in Khalid Lagoon by day, glowing gold at dusk, and projection-painted during the Light Festival each February.
With Al Noor Island's bridge beside it and the corniche cafés around, it anchors the city's best evening walk.
