Wadi Shis
Terraced farms and spring pools in Sharjah's mountain enclave
An emerald reservoir in the Khor Fakkan mountains — kayaks, trails and karak
Al Rafisah pools green mountain water behind a dam wall just above Khor Fakkan, and Sharjah turned its shoreline into the east coast's favourite pit stop: kayak and pedal-boat rentals on the reservoir, a waterfront rest house with karak and grills, lawns, playgrounds and a floating walkway.
The Al Rabi hiking trail climbs from here — a marked ridge route with bay-and-mountain panoramas — and the drowned-valley scenery photographs like a Nordic fjord that took a wrong turn.
Sunset is its hour: the dam faces west up the wadi, the water goes molten, and the free viewpoint terraces fill with families who know.
