Sikka Art & Design District
Street art and pop-up studios in the heritage lanes — old Dubai's creative corner
Warehouses turned art district — the creative soul of Dubai lives in Al Quoz
Hidden in the warehouses of Al Quoz's industrial grid, Alserkal Avenue is the region's most important independent art district: 60+ converted units holding contemporary galleries, artist studios, concept spaces, a chocolate factory, specialty coffee roasters and Cinema Akil — the Gulf's first arthouse cinema.
The galleries (Leila Heller, Ayyam, Carbon 12, The Third Line among them) show serious Middle Eastern and international contemporary art, and everything is free to walk into. Between shows, the district hums with launches, talks, pop-ups and the best-dressed crowd in the city.
This is the Dubai that surprises people who think the city is only malls: gritty on the outside, world-class on the inside. Come on a Saturday, gallery-hop for an afternoon, and finish with a film at Cinema Akil.
