📖 About

Hiding in plain sight near Satwa's roundabout is the most intricately decorated building in Dubai: the Imam Hussein Mosque, known to everyone as the Iranian Mosque — its dome and facade wrapped entirely in Persian faience mosaic, a hypnotic bloom of blues, turquoise, yellow and rose that belongs on Isfahan's grandest squares.

Built by Dubai's Iranian community, it's an active Shia mosque rather than a tourist attraction, which is precisely why almost no visitors know it. Non-Muslims admire the tilework from outside — and the outside is the show; every arch, muqarnas and calligraphy band is a photograph.

It makes the perfect anchor for exploring Satwa itself: Dubai's great unpolished neighbourhood of tailors, fabric shops and legendary cheap eats (Ravi, Al Mallah) five minutes' walk away.

⭐ Highlights

  • Full Persian-tile facade and dome — unmatched in Dubai
  • Working neighbourhood mosque, virtually tourist-free
  • Detail photography heaven: muqarnas, calligraphy, mosaic
  • Anchors a Satwa food-and-fabric walkabout
  • Free

💡 Insider Tips

  • Photograph from the street respectfully — avoid prayer times for exterior shots too.
  • Morning sun favours the main facade; the tiles glow blue-gold late afternoon.
  • Non-Muslims shouldn't enter the prayer hall; the exterior rewards the trip alone.
  • Finish at Al Mallah or Ravi nearby — the classic Satwa combination.
