Gold Souk
The City of Gold's beating heart — 300+ shops and tonnes of gold on open display
Oud, attar and bespoke blends — the Arabian fragrance tradition, shop by shop
Arabian perfume culture is a different world from the duty-free counter, and the Perfume Souk is its front door. The shops lining Sikkat Al Khail sell oud — the resinous heartwood that's the region's signature scent — alongside attars (alcohol-free oil perfumes), bakhoor incense chips, and rows of ornate bottles waiting to be filled.
The experience is the point: tell a shopkeeper what you like and they'll dab oils along your arm, layering rose, amber, musk and oud until something clicks — then mix a bespoke bottle on the spot. Prices run from a few dirhams for sample vials to serious money for aged oud oil, and everything in between is negotiable.
It's the best souvenir hunting in Deira: a custom 12ml attar costs less than a mall perfume, lasts longer on the skin, and comes with a story no airport bottle can match.
