Al Wathba Fossil Dunes

The capital's wild-camping heartland — easy dunes, huge skies, zero fees
Ask an Abu Dhabi camping family where they go and the answer, more often than not, is Razeen: a sweep of manageable amber dunes an hour from town, with firm access tracks, endless private bowls between the sands, and a long local tradition of weekend tents, firewood and karak at dawn.
It hits the wild-camping sweet spot — genuinely wild (no facilities, no fees, no lights) yet forgiving: the dunes are moderate, phone signal generally holds, and the truck road is never dangerously far. For a first UAE desert overnight, it's the sensible classroom.
The routine writes itself: arrive late afternoon, camp on firm sand in a dune bowl, sunset from the nearest ridge, fire and stars, and the cold clean silence of a desert dawn.
