The edge of the Rub' Al Khali — the greatest sand desert on Earth begins here
An Arabian safari island — giraffes, cheetahs and 17,000 free-roaming animals
Sheikh Zayed turned this 87-square-kilometre island into his conservation ark in the 1970s, and today the Arabian Wildlife Park covers half of it: 17,000+ animals — Arabian oryx saved from extinction, gazelles, giraffes, ostriches, hyenas and a cheetah population — roaming savannah-like terrain ringed by Gulf water.
The experience runs like an Arabian safari: open-vehicle game drives at dawn and dusk, plus kayaking through island mangroves, snorkelling, horse rides, mountain-bike trails and a surprise of history — the ruins of a 7th–8th century Christian monastery, the only one discovered in the UAE.
Three Anantara resorts host overnights (the full experience), while organised day packages from the mainland cover the headline safari. It's the Emirates' most complete nature escape.
