Spice Souk
Sacks of saffron, frankincense and dried limes — old Arabia by the nose
Silk, pashmina and a tailor on every corner — the prettiest souk arcade in Dubai
The Textile Souk occupies the most beautiful arcade in old Dubai: a long, restored lane of wind-tower architecture and carved wooden roofing on the Bur Dubai bank of the creek. Under it, shops are stacked to the ceiling with silks, cottons, pashminas, sari fabrics and embroidered slippers.
This is where Dubai gets clothes made. Pick a fabric, and the tailors in and around the souk will turn it into a fitted shirt, dress or suit — often within a day or two, at prices that make the flight worthwhile for some visitors. The pashmina trade is the other draw: everything from AED 20 acrylic to genuine cashmere, if you know how to tell them apart.
It bookends the perfect old-Dubai walk: step off the abra, browse the arcade, then drift into the Al Fahidi Historical District and the Hindu temple lane behind it — three centuries of Dubai in a few hundred metres.
