Old Town UAQ
A time-capsule peninsula — coral houses, dhow harbour and streets from another UAE
The 1768 fort that guarded the peninsula — now the emirate's memory box
Built in 1768 where the creek meets the sea, Umm Al Quwain's fort ruled the smallest emirate for two centuries — watchtowers, cannon and coral-stone walls that served as palace, garrison and police post before becoming its museum.
Exhibits run charmingly homespun: archaeological finds from Ed-Dur (the emirate's lost pre-Islamic port city), pearling gear, weaponry and rooms restored to ruling-family life. Together with the surrounding old town lanes, it's the compact heart of the UAE's least-visited emirate.
