📖 About

Five interlinked pods — like a research station landed on Mars — perch on the flank of Jebel Buhais, interpreting a landscape that was ocean floor 93 million years ago: the surrounding rocks are ophiolite, deep-sea crust shoved onto land, studded with marine fossils.

Inside, immersive galleries walk you from plate tectonics to the fossils at your feet; outside, a skywalk viewing deck hangs over the ridge with panoramas across the fossil fields to the dunes.

It's the region's most architecturally striking small museum and nearly always empty — the definition of a hidden gem, ten minutes from the Mleiha circuit it completes.

⭐ Highlights

  • Award-winning pod architecture on the mountain
  • Ophiolite ridge — genuine deep-ocean floor, uplifted
  • Immersive geology galleries and fossil displays
  • Skywalk deck panoramas
  • Blissfully uncrowded

💡 Insider Tips

  • Pair with the Archaeological Centre — geology + archaeology = the full Mleiha story.
  • The café's ridge-view terrace earns a slow coffee.
  • Check the Monday closure before the drive.
  • Short marked walks outside reach real fossil beds — ask staff to point them.
