130,000 years of Arabia — the museum that unlocks the desert around it
Built in a ring around a 4,000-year-old Umm an-Nar tomb, this award-winning centre tells the deep story most Gulf tourism skips: Stone Age hand-axes from the Faya range (evidence on the early human migration out of Africa), Iron Age forts, pre-Islamic kingdoms that minted their own coins, and warrior graves complete with horses.
Galleries are compact and excellent; the guided add-ons take you out to the real thing — Valley of the Caves, ancient necropolises, the fort footprints — scattered through the dunes you'll be bashing later.
It reframes the entire desert around it: what looks like empty sand from the highway is one of Arabia's oldest inhabited landscapes.
