📖 About

The DDCR is the UAE's first national park: 225 square kilometres of protected dunes — nearly 5% of the emirate — managed for conservation since 2003. This is where Dubai reintroduced the Arabian oryx, and where the desert looks the way it did before the city existed.

Entry is restricted to a shortlist of licensed operators, which is precisely its appeal: vehicle numbers are capped, dune-bashing is banned in favour of gentle wildlife drives, and experiences lean premium — falconry at dawn, camel treks, vintage Land Rover safaris and Bedouin-style dinners under the stars.

If the mass-market safari camps are Dubai's desert theme park, the DDCR is its national gallery. Pay the extra; the silence is the product.

⭐ Highlights

  • 225 km² protected reserve — the largest slice of wild Dubai
  • Arabian oryx, gazelles and dune ecosystems at their healthiest
  • Low-impact safaris: falconry, camel treks, vintage 4x4 drives
  • Capped visitor numbers — never a convoy jam
  • Home of the Al Maha desert resort

💡 Insider Tips

  • Book a conservation-focused drive rather than a party safari — that's the point of this reserve.
  • Dawn falconry displays are the sleeper hit — book the sunrise slot.
  • Winter nights drop near 10°C — bring a layer for dinner in the dunes.
  • Combine with an Al Maha lunch or stay if the budget stretches; it's the UAE's most storied desert resort.
