Heart of Sharjah
The Gulf's largest heritage restoration — a whole historic quarter brought back to life
Five thousand treasures under a golden dome — the Islamic world, brilliantly told
Housed in a magnificently repurposed souk building crowned with a gilded zodiac dome, this is the Gulf's definitive museum of Islamic civilisation: 5,000+ artefacts spanning 1,400 years — Qur'anic manuscripts and Kaaba coverings, astrolabes and early surgical instruments, ceramics, coins and textiles from Andalusia to China.
The first-floor science galleries are the revelation for most visitors: the Islamic Golden Age's contributions to astronomy, medicine, mathematics and navigation, demonstrated with working models — the "House of Wisdom" chapter most museums skip.
At AED 10 it's among the best-value museums anywhere, and its position on the creek makes it the natural first stop of a Heart of Sharjah heritage day.
