Masfout Dam
A tiny mountain reservoir with zero tourists — picnic spot of connoisseurs
Ajman's mountain exclave — cool air, old watchtowers and Hajar horizons
Few visitors realise Ajman owns a piece of the mountains: Masfout, an exclave tucked into the Hajar foothills beside Hatta, where the emirate's farms grow and its families summer. Stone watchtowers and the small Masfout Castle guard a valley of orchards and wadi beds.
The town is the gentle kind of destination — heritage sites, viewpoint drives, a produce market of mountain-grown vegetables — best absorbed as a loop with its dam and the scenic road onward to Hatta.
It answers a question the coast can't: what the Emirates feel like at altitude, in air a few degrees kinder, where agriculture never stopped mattering.
