Liwa Oasis & Empty Quarter
The edge of the Rub' Al Khali — the greatest sand desert on Earth begins here
The mirage palace — the Empty Quarter's most cinematic corner
Qasr Al Sarab — "palace of the mirage" — is the fortress-style desert resort that made the Empty Quarter accessible: a sandstone citadel rising from a sea of giant apricot dunes, familiar from films and a hundred magazine covers. The surrounding dunescape is the most photogenic easily-reached corner of the Rub' Al Khali.
Non-guests can experience it by booking dining (the terraces at sunset are the prize) or resort-run activities — camel treks along the dune ridge, archery, falconry, guided dune walks — which effectively opens the landscape without the room rate.
If your budget allows one UAE splurge night, this is the consensus answer: dawn from your terrace, dunes to the horizon, silence with room service.
