The UAE's first mountain national park — waterfalls, toads and true wilderness
Wadi Wurayah became the UAE's first mountain protected area for good reason: a permanent freshwater system — waterfall, pools, streams — supporting wildlife found almost nowhere else in the country, from the Wadi Racer snake and endemic toads to (historically) the Arabian tahr and leopard's last traces.
Conservation has rightly trumped tourism here: access to the famous waterfall pools has been restricted, reopened and re-managed in phases as the park balances visitors with fragile water life. Check the current arrangement — and treat whatever access exists as the privilege it is.
