Iranian Souk (Mina Port)
Pottery, plants and goods straight off the dhows from Iran
Rolled kilims, Afghan knots and real bargaining in the old port district
Out in the old port district, the Carpet Souk is where Abu Dhabi actually buys its rugs: stacked warehouses of Persian, Afghan, Kashmiri and Turkish pieces alongside machine-made majlis sets, camel-hair throws and the cushions that furnish half the city's living rooms.
This is bargaining country — friendly, tea-fuelled and genuinely negotiable — and the mix runs from AED 50 cheerful kilims to hand-knotted pieces worth flying home. Traders will unroll thirty carpets without blinking; that's the culture, not pressure.
The wider Mina Zayed district (fish market, Friday souq, plant souk, Warehouse421 arts centre) has been steadily redeveloping into a waterfront destination, so stall locations shift — but the trade survives every reshuffle. Ask any trader and you'll be pointed right.
